BMI Calculator for Men
Calculate BMI tailored to adult men with health context specific to male body composition and cardiometabolic risk thresholds.
What is BMI for Men?
Adult BMI uses the same formula for men and women, but the implications differ. Men typically carry less essential fat, distribute fat more centrally, and reach metabolic-syndrome thresholds at a slightly different waist circumference. The standard category boundaries (18.5/25/30) still apply.
How is it calculated?
BMI = weight (kg) / height (m)². For men, also check waist circumference: > 94 cm = increased risk; > 102 cm = high risk for cardiometabolic disease, regardless of BMI.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is BMI accurate for muscular men?
- Not always. Heavily muscled men can be flagged "overweight" without excess fat. Add FFMI or body-fat % for context.
- What waist size is concerning for men?
- Above 102 cm (40 in) is associated with high metabolic risk.
- Are BMI categories different for men?
- No — the WHO uses unified adult thresholds.
