Stroke Volume Calculator

Calculate stroke volume and ejection fraction from end-diastolic and end-systolic ventricular volumes.

What is Stroke Volume?

Stroke volume is the amount of blood ejected by each heartbeat. Combined with ejection fraction (the percentage of EDV actually ejected), it is one of the most important indicators of cardiac function. A fit endurance athlete can have an SV of 100+ mL at rest, double the average.

How is it calculated?

SV = EDV − ESV. Ejection Fraction (%) = SV / EDV × 100. Normal LV ejection fraction is 55–70%.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does ejection fraction matter?
It distinguishes systolic from diastolic heart failure.
Can SV be measured non-invasively?
Yes — echocardiography is the gold standard.
Does training increase SV?
Yes — endurance training can raise SV by 20–30%.
